Ing. Ken Ashigbey described the re-election of Obour as MUSIGA President is a sign of the confidence the members of the Union have in him. He spoke about the umbilical cord that binds MUSIGA to the Graphic Group in terms of how the Graphic Communications Group and MUSIGA have a joint task of promoting Ghana music to levels that we can be proud of and how Ghana music can compete favorably in the global arena. Ing. Ashigbey said the Graphic Group has been involved in developing brands in Ghana and will continue to assist the Union in developing our musical identity as a nation. The Graphic Group MD assured the Union executives of the group’s continued support for the Ghana Music Week Festival as well as the MUSIGA Academy.
The Director of Newspapers at the Graphic Group Yaw Boadu Ayeh-Boafo also applauded the MUSIGA Academy idea and the Ageing Musicians Welfare Fund (AMWeF) set up by the Union to cater for the older generation of musicians as well as the incapacitated.
On his part, the MUSIGA President thanked the MD and his team for the huge support the Graphic Group has been offering the Union describing the group as one of the top partners of MUSIGA. He reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to exporting Ghanaian music to the world. The meeting also described some avenues for collaboration between the two organizations.
The visit is part of a series of courtesy calls by the newly elected executives of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA). The delegation led by the President of the Union, Bice Osei Kuffour aka Obour visited the Graphic Communications Group Ltd and the Despite Group of Companies operators of Peace, Okay and Neat FMs as well as UTV.
At the Despite Group of Companies, the Director of Finance and Administration for the group Fadda Dickson also commended the MUSIGA leadership on their election and assured them of continued support for the Union’s work. The meeting also discussed ways of improving music sales in the digital era in addition to challenges the industry faces and how to overcome them. The MUSIGA delegation was made up of the 1st Vice President, Bessa Simons; 2nd Vice President Rev Dr. Thomas Yawson; National Organizer, Chizzy Wailer; Secretary of AMWeF, J.V. Owusu, the newly appointed spokesman for the President, Nana Yaw Osei-Darkwa; the Administrator, Rev Fiifi Khan Agyarkwah and the Director of Communications and Special Projects.
